What We Do & Who We Serve

We connect attorneys, paraprofessionals, and law students with volunteer opportunities that fit their interests, location, and availability. We also offer robust support for volunteers, including free on-demand training and CLEs; sample pleadings and practice guides; staff support; information on professional liability coverage; and direct connections to Indiana’s civil legal aid agencies.

We do this to empower our volunteers, serve Hoosiers of limited means, and to ensure equal access to our system of justice for all those who, because of economic or social barriers, cannot afford or secure adequate legal counsel.

How to Get Started

Understand What Pro Bono Means. Read “About Pro Bono” in the FAQ section, or watch our free “Ethics of Pro Bono” CLE.

Reflect on Your Interests and Skills. Identify legal issues you feel passionate about, and consider skills you want to develop.

Research Available Opportunities. Peruse our list of current Volunteer Opportunities, or ask your local pro bono office, civil legal aid organization, or bar association.

Get Training. Read our online manuals on a topic you want to learn more about, and take a CLE to take a deeper dive into a topic.

Give it a Try. Answer a question on Indiana Free Legal Answers, or volunteer for a legal clinic.

Expand your Horizons. Chat with your local pro bono office about what types of cases or opportunities you are most interested in, or partner with another attorney on a pro bono matter in a new area of law.

Stay connected. Join our mailing list to be notified of new events and opportunities, then attend a live CLE or pro bono networking event.

Pass it On. Present or sponsor a CLE or training session for other pro bono attorneys, and invite other attorneys and legal professionals to join you in doing pro bono!
